Why parables?

And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parables. And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God … (Matt 13:13 adds) therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. (Mark 4:10-11)

- Jesus taught in parables which focused on the ‘good news’ of God’s Kingdom on earth.
- Parables can effect us in two ways– they can enlighten or confound.
- Believers are enlightened - critics are confounded.
- Parables teach us about things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me understand your Son’s parables about your kingdom and about the things which you have kept secret from the foundation of the world. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Supporting verse: All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world. (Matt 13:34-35)
